Friday night scrimmages —

MT. JULIET — Colby Martin ran for two long touchdowns and Mt. Juliet did not allow Clarksville to score in the first scrimmage of the season on Friday night.

Marcello Walton ran for another touchdown from 5 yards and Malik Bowen outjumped a defender in the end zone for a 36-yard touchdown catch late in the first half when the Golden Bears were using a no-huddle offense.

Robbie Brewington added a 19-yard field goal late in the scrimmage.

Martin’s 72-yard scoring run came on a misdirection play in the first half as Mt. Juliet worked to improve its new Wing-T offense. His 40-yard run was early in the third quarter.

Reggie Grimes did not carry the ball much. His 40-yard run for a touchdown in the first quarter was called back because of a holding penalty.

The Golden Bears had three holding penalties in the first half.

Mt. Juliet recovered a fumble on its 2 late in the third quarter to stop Clarksville’s best scoring opportunity.

“We have so many people who can run the ball well that it really gives us a lot of good options,” Mt. Juliet coach Trey Perry said.

MJHS will close out the preseason Saturday, Aug. 11 in the Shackle Island community of Sumner County with the “Bear / Buc Bash” taking on Beech High School.

Middle school, ninth grade, junior varsity and varsity teams will clash with action cranking up at 4 p.m.

WHS 41, Macon Co. 7 —

WATERTOWN — Bryce Webster threw touchdown passes to Heath Price (27 yards) and Zach Hill (45 yards) and cornerback Elijah Maklary contributed a 35-yard pick six as Watertown downed Macon County 41-7 Friday night at Robinson Stadium.

Deramus Carey added a 1-yard touchdown run with 7:06 remaining in the second quarter.

Jordan Cason scored on a 45-yard touchdown run in the third and Brayden Cousino chipped in a 50-yard touchdown run late in the fourth.

Cole Miller connected on five of six PATs.

Watertown will host Upperman Friday, Aug. 10 in a preseason scrimmage.

Wilson Central 19, McGavock 7 —

GLADEVILLE — Wilson Central scored a 19-7 win over McGavock in a preseason scrimmage Friday at Wildcat Stadium.

The Wildcats scored on three offensive possessions to open the scrimmage on two rushing touchdowns from QB Dylan Carpenter and one from transfer tailback Ladarious Stewart.

Garrett Todd was knocked out of bounds at the one off a fake field goal attempt at the final buzzer.

Senior tailback Stratton Farmer did not dress due to injury.

Schedule change —

Wilson Central will now host Shelbyville Central in an Aug. 10 jamboree. Shelbyville requested the change due to field construction. 9th grade, JV and varsity will scrimmage for two periods each.

Lebanon 14, Gallatin 7 —

GALLATIN — Lebanon High scored on consecutive possessions on the way to a 14-7 win in “controlled” scrimmage at Gallatin High Friday.

Officials were instructed to use a “quick whistle” to avoid unnecessary contact on the quarterbacks.

Jeremiah Hastings and Polo Phillips caught touchdown passes from Chandler Crite.

“I wanted to see us throw the football and to get an idea how we could protect the passer,” said LHS head coach Chuck Gentry.

The Blue Devil defense, led by tackle Zion Logue, outside linebacker David Davila and noseman Greyson Gregory kept the Green Wave bottled up most of the evening.

Lebanon will visit Nashville East High Tuesday in another scrimmage.
