MT. JULIET — Jason Burch scored baskets on three consecutive trips in the early stages of the fourth quarter to help send Green Hill High to a 62-55 win over District 9AAA rival Lebanon Friday, Jan. 8.

Burch, a sophomore post player for the Hawks, finished with 18 points as GHHS (6-4, 5-1 in 9AAA) won for the sixth straight outing after an 0-4 start.

“We want him to be a grown man, but he’s just a 15-year old kid,” said Green Hill coach Troy Allen. “But when we needed him he came through for us.”

Burch helped his squad push a 46-44 lead out to 52-44 against the Blue Devils who managed to draw even at 32-32 on a dunk by Yarin Alexander, but never led in the game.

“Every once in a while Lebanon sped us up and made us do some things we really didn’t want to do,” Allen said.

“That’s a talented team over there. I think they’re on the verge of figuring it all out and once they do they’re going to be hard to play.”

Green Hill led 14-6 in the first quarter, only to see Lebanon claw back to within two at 16-14 on a 7-0 run keyed by a 3-pointer from Kobe Tibbs and spectacular back-to-back baskets by Jarred Hall.

A baseline jumper by Tibbs brought LHS to within 56-50 with 1:08 remaining in regulation, but Green Hill sealed the game with a 7-of-8 effort at the line in the final 30 seconds.

Paxton Davison joined Burch with 18 points while Riggs Abner had 16 and Mo Ruttlen finished with 10.

The Hawks went 17-of-22 at the free throw stripe (77 percent).

Lebanon’s Hall came off the bench for 20 points to lead all scorers and was the only Blue Devil in double-figures. Alexander had nine and Tibbs eight before he exited the game with a leg injury in the closing minutes.

LHS (6-6, 3-4) was 4-of-10 from the charity stripe (40 percent).
