Link throws 4 touchdown passes -

Mt. Juliet Christian Academy showed no rust from a two-week layoff as Christian Link threw for four touchdown passes and Kamron Curtis rushed for 204 yards and two scores in a 43-6 victory over Webb School Friday at Suey Field.

Before MJCA (3-3, 3-1 East Region) even left the field after the victory they were thinking about their next game at region leader Friendship Christian School.

“We’ve gotta be precise and play as one team next week,” Link said. “We need to keep the tempo up and go fast all of the time.”

The Commanders beat MJCA 48-7 last season on the way to a state runner-up finish.

“I told them for two weeks that the only thing I cared about was Webb,” MJCA coach Dan Davis said. “I didn't look at any Friendship tape. I told them that if you don't win this one, it throws everything into turmoil.”

Link completed 5-of-8 passes for 102 yards and the four touchdowns.

Montrell Walker was his top receiver with three catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Jack Crouch (30 yards) and Jordan Willis (15 yards) each had a catch, with both scoring a touchdown.

“(Link) had a very efficient night,” Davis said. “We had a gameplan and he is getting better and better at distributing the ball and being efficient when we want to throw it and it is starting to show up on the scoreboard.”

Curtis rushed for 180 yards and both of his touchdowns in the first half. He left the game in the third quarter after an awkward tackle left him limping briefly with an ankle injury. His backup, Braxton Lamberth, rushed seven times for 44 yards. The Saints finished with 322 rushing yards on a season-high 31 carries.

Link got the scoring going early with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Walker — who made a one-handed catch on what looked to be an overthrown pass — less than two minutes into the game.

Link set up the touchdown with a 24-yard run.

On the next series, Walker — who had an interception in the second quarter — made a tackle in the end zone for a safety. Curtis finished the first-quarter scoring with a 14-yard run and 16-0 lead just eight minutes into the game.

Midway through the second quarter Link threw a touchdown pass to Crouch.

Two minutes after Crouch’s score, the Saints stopped Webb by forcing an incomplete pass on fourth down.

On the first offensive play Curtis ran 20 yards off tackle for a touchdown. He set up the Saints’ final touchdown of the first half with a 62-yard run in the final minute.

Link then lobbed a 20-yard scoring pass to Walker with 29 seconds until halftime. That gave MJCA a 36-0 halftime lead and allowed for a running clock for the entire second half.

Jacob Robertson recovered a fumble for MJCA early in the fourth quarter. Jordan Willis scored the Saints’ final touchdown, catching a 15-yard pass while falling on his back in the end zone.

Webb (1-4, 1-4) is playing is first season of 11-man football after fielding an 8-man team each season starting in 2011.

The Feet had just 20 players in uniform against MJCA. Webb has decided to try to make an impression with a passing offense.

Webb sophomore quarterback Weston Coop completed of 12-of-27 passes for 210 yards. Tall wide receiver Amos Howard caught four passes for 129 yards.
