Lebanon and Wilson Central square off Thursday, Oct. 22 in a Region 4, 6A contest that has major playoff ramifications for both programs.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Clifton Tribble Field / Danny Watkins Stadium. Live radio coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on WANT FM-98.9 and WCOR AM-1490.

The Wildcats enter Thursday’s contest 4-4 on the season and 1-2 in the region following an Oct. 16 open date.

Lebanon stands 5-3, with a COVID-19 win over McGavock, and 1-2 in Region 4,6A. The Blue Devils own a modest three-game winning streak.

Both teams are facing similar postseason scenarios — win the two remaining games on the schedule in order to earn third place in the region and avoid playing Oakland in the first round of the TSSAA playoffs.

A split of the two remaining games would most likely mean a fourth place finish and a trip to Oakland.

Lose the two remaining games, and miss the playoffs all together.

Dating back to 2001, Wilson Central holds an 11-8 edge in the rivalry, including three wins over the past five meetings.

Wilson Central has relied on a pair of running backs for most of the year, alternating Zavier Ali and C.J. Hatchett with solid results.

Lebanon’s primary ball carrier is tailback Dequantay Shannon who just went over the 3,000-yard mark in career rushing.

His 50th career touchdown came on a 99-yard kickoff return last Friday against Stewarts Creek.

There’s a contrast at quarterback as well.

WCHS signal caller is veteran Tristan Lewis, who last year as a junior carved up the Blue Devil secondary.

Sophomore Jalen Abston stands behind center for LHS. He’s already thrown for over 1,000 yards through seven games.
