LEBANON — Host Lebanon roared to a 22-5 first quarter lead and never looked back in Friday’s 46-21 victory over District 9-AAA rival Portland at Campbell Brandon Gymnasium.

The Devilettes (19-9 overall / 10-4 district) pushed the lead to 29-9 at intermission and 38-16 headed into the final eight minutes.

Twelve offensive rebounds in the first half alone helped key the LHS advantage.

Lebanon junior Allissa Mulaski swished three 3-pointers and finished with 19 to lead all scorers — reaching the 1,000 career point mark on a trey from the right wing with 6:52 left in the contest.

Winners in nine games out of 12 since January 4, LHS coach Cory Barrett is upbeat about his squad headed into next week’s District 9-AAA tournament at Gallatin’s Jerry Vradenburg Gymnasium.

“I think we’re in pretty good shape,” Barrett said, “with (Aaryn Grace) Lester coming back tonight, we’re pretty healthy.

“I like the way we’re playing right now. We’ve challenged our kids all year with what I think is the toughest schedule in the state of Tennessee. I feel certain we’re prepared for those ‘big moments’ we’ll see in tournament play.”

No. 3-seeded Lebanon will take on No. 6-seed and tournament host Gallatin Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

“Gallatin is a very athletic squad,” Barrett said, “they are a dangerous team, they played Mt. Juliet to eight or nine points a week ago. We’ve got our work cut out for us.”

With the loss, Portland dropped to 4-22 overall and 0-14 in district play headed into a 6:30 p.m. game Wednesday versus top-seeded Beech at Gallatin.
