Now the fun starts.

The 2022 high school football season starts in earnest Friday, Aug. 19 as all seven Wilson County programs will be in action.

Only three teams will play at home with the other four hitting the road.

Here’s a look at what’s on tap.

Rossview High at Wilson Central

Coach Brad Dedman’s Wilson Central squad opens the season at home Friday as Rossview High from Clarksville provides the opposition.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm at Wildcat Stadium. Tickets are $8 online via gofan.co or $10 cash at the gate.

An on demand video broadcast is available via nfhsnetwork.com.

Coach Dedman’s teams have gone 61-68 in 12 seasons at Wilson Central — including the 2021 season opening 17-3 victory at Rossview

Fayetteville High at Watertown

Watertown’s Purple Tigers break the season on the 2022 season this Friday as Class 1A power Fayetteville High comes to Robinson Stadium.

Watertown gave up a touchdown at the buzzer and came out on the short end of a 13-0 jamboree loss to Smith County at Gordonsville’s Turney Ford Field last Friday.

Lookout Valley at MJ Christian

Mt. Juliet Christian Academy is scheduled to entertain Lookout Valley in Friday’s 7 pm season-opener at Ed Suey Field.

The Saints, coached by Dan Davis (33-52 in 8 seasons), are coming off a 2-8 mark in 2021 — including a 52-8 victory over Lookout Valley in last year’s season-opening contest.

The Lookout Valley Yellowjackets went 0-9 in 2021.

Coach Josh Crouch will send his Green Hill Hawks into action Friday in Murfreesboro at Siegel High School.

Siegel only went 4-6 in 2021, but the Stars did hang a 29-21 loss on Green Hill a year ago.

In the wake of that loss, the Hawks reeled off 11 consecutive victories before falling to Page High of Franklin in the Class 5A quarterfinals.

Coach Crouch has led Green Hill to a two-year record of 15-8 since starting the program from scratch in the summer of 2020.

The Hawks should be able to churn out points with key senior play-makers on the offensive side of the ball — including quarterback Cade Mahoney, receiver/returner Kaleb Carver and tailback Brax Lamberth.

Tickets are $9 online via gofan.co or $10 cash at the gate at Ken Nolan Stadium.

Mt. Juliet at Gallatin

Mt. Juliet’s Golden Bears are gunning for a third consecutive victory over longtime rival Gallatin Friday, Aug. 19 as the teams square off at Calvin Short Field in the season-opener for both programs.

Mt. Juliet’s defensive unit forced three turnovers, two interceptions and a fumble, in last Friday’s 7-3 jamboree victory over Ensworth at Roger Perry Field.

Austin Peay verbal commitment Griffin Throneberry has settled in a quarterback with his primary targets being Osize Daniyan and Walter Bowers IV.

Friendship Christian at Trousdale Co.

Friendship Christian School opens the 2022 season on the road Friday, playing in Hartsville against longtime rival Trousdale County High.

Live radio coverage can be heard on WTNK-FM 93.5 or online at funradiotn.com.

Coach John McNeal’s Commanders are coming off a 10-7 jamboree loss to Franklin Road Academy last Saturday.

Offensively, look for FCS to rely on quarterback Garrett Weekly, tailback Tyson Wollcott and wide receiver Brock Montgomery.

McNeal, the dean of Wilson County football coaches, embarks on his 31st season with FCS Friday.

He’s run up a record of 266-123 (.683 winning percentage) during that span with three TSSAA football state championships.

Lebanon at Antioch

Lebanon High’s Blue Devils open the 2022 football season on the road Friday, playing at nearby Antioch High School.

Kickoff is set for 7 pm with live radio coverage beginning at 6:30 pm on WANT-FM 98.9 and online at wantfm.com.

Coach Chuck Gentry (34-21 overall) enters his sixth season at LHS with high hopes of improving on last season’s mark of 11-2 and a berth in the Class 6A quarterfinals.

Offensively, the Blue Devils look to a pair of seniors to lead the way in quarterback Jaylen Abston and slot receiver Anthony Crowell.

A trio of aggressive linemen pace the defensive side of the ball in Demonte Cook, Brison Jackson (both seniors) and junior Jack Clinard.
