Sports Council honors all around student athletes

Britt & Dalton receive scholarships –

LEBANON – Lebanon High’s Aiden Britt and Wilson Central’s Sydney Dalton were recognized Friday as the Best All Around Student Athletes by the Wilson County Sports Council.

The pair were among 14 student athletes nominated for the honor by coaches, administrators and guidance counselors from Wilson County’s 14 high schools.

All 14 were introduced at a luncheon held at Cumberland University’s Baird Chapel with keynote remarks from 2021 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame inductee Cathy Bender.

Ms. Bender, a 1978 graduate of Mt. Juliet High School, was an all-state performer for the 1977 TSSAA state champion girls basketball team.

She became the first African American female athlete to sign scholarship papers with Vanderbilt University where she was a four-year starter for the Commodores.

Ms. Bender works as the Vice-President and Senior Financial for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and is a longtime member of the Davidson County Sports Authority.

Britt excels in cross county and track for the Blue Devils and is considered one of the top distance runners in the state.

He will attend Ole Miss in the fall and will run distance for the Rebels while pursuing an engineering degree.

Dalton was a four-year letter winner in both volleyball and basketball for Wilson Central and has signed scholarship papers to attend the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. this fall where she will play basketball. Both received $1,500 scholarships from the Wilson County Sports Council.

Nominees included: Logan Seagraves and Trey Owen from Friendship Christian School; Sydnee Richetto and Zach Blair from Green Hill; Avery Harris from Lebanon; Gracie Clark and Justin Matthews from Mt. Juliet Christian Academy; Gabriella Brown and Kyle David Taylor from Mt. Juliet; Brittni Allison and Jordan Cason from Watertown and Steven Thomas Stone from Wilson Central.
