WATERTOWN – What started out as a promising night for Watertown turned into Upperman domination as the Bees took home a 48-7 win Friday night at Robinson Stadium.

“We didn’t play good at all tonight,” said Watertown head coach Gavin Webster.

“We had a lot of missed assignments on defense. We didn’t tackle well. We had a lot of missed assignments on offense. We had too many second and longs, third and longs. We are just not built to overcome those when you have that many. We got outplayed in all phases of the game tonight.”

Watertown (2-3) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after quarterback Kaiden West hit Trent Spradling on a 12-yard touchdown pass with 8:54 left in the first quarter.

The Purple Tigers’ opening drive went 67 yards on six plays. West took the first play from scrimmage 46 yards to put Watertown in the red zone at the 19-yard line.

Upperman (3-2) then took possession after Watertown’s opening drive and controlled the game on both sides of the ball.

Rushing was involved in four total touchdowns for the Bees, three rushing and one passing. He finished the night with 112 yards on 10 carries and was 6-of-11 passing for 88 yards with one interception by Spradling in the second.

Upperman’s defense also dominated the Purple Tigers, limiting Watertown to 65 yards of total offense and negative-12 yards in the second half.

Watertown will face East Robertson on the road Friday, Sept. 30 when the Purple Tigers return to Region 4, 2A play.

Class 4A Upperman is scheduled to travel to Lafayette to take on Macon County.
