BRENTWOOD — Wilson Central Class of 2017 graduate and Tennessee at Martin wide receiver Colton Dowell has earned Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference status in conjunction with Monday’s OVC Football Media Day.

A native of Lebanon, Dowell is a two-time All-OVC selection after tallying 78 receptions, 1,224 yards and eight touchdowns over the last two seasons.

During the shortened spring season the redshirt junior ranked amongst OVC leaders in receptions (40, first), receiving yards (459, second), touchdowns (four, second), receptions per game (5.7, second) and receiving yards per game (65.6, third) while ranking 21st nationally in receiving touchdowns and receiving yards.

While he tallied a season-high 105 yards and a touchdown against Tennessee Tech in the season-finale, arguably his most impactful game came against Southeast Missouri when he recorded a pair of receiving touchdowns.

UT Martin opens the season Thursday, Sept. 2 when traveling to Football Bowl Subdivision foe Western Kentucky.

The Skyhawks will make their home debut at Hardy M. Graham Stadium for Family Weekend Saturday, Sept. 11 against Samford.

OVC NOTES – Former Cumberland University and Wilson Central head coach Dewayne Alexander‘s Tennessee Tech squad has been picked sixth in the seven-team OVC pre-season poll.

Former Cumberland head coach Donnie Suber is Alexander’s defensive coordinator.

Three former Wilson County standouts are listed on the TTU roster. They include: junior linebacker Aiden Raines, Mt. Juliet; redshirt junior defensive tackle Nathan Counts, Lebanon and freshman wide receiver Ezra Widelock, Wilson Central.

Tennessee Tech opens the 2021 season at Samford Thursday, Sept. 2 then will entertain Furman Saturday, Sept. 11 in the home opener.
