WATERTOWN — Adam Cooper ran for five first half touchdowns as Watertown rolled to an easy 42-8 homecoming win over East Robertson Friday at Robinson Stadium.

With the win, the Purple Tigers moved to 3-3 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in Region 4-2A while the Indians slipped to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the region.

“We worked hard to correct our mistakes from last week,” said Watertown coach Gavin Webster.

“We know what we have to do to compete for the region championship — we have to continue to keep working and do what we do every day.”

Cooper, a sophomore, scored on runs of 3, 17, 8, 45 and 25 yards.

The one time the East Robertson defense slowed the Watertown ground attack came at the 6:15 mark of the 1st quarter when the Indians forced a punt.

But a fumble on the ensuing kick set the Watertown offense up in business near midfield.

East Robertson didn’t find the end zone until the 0:27 mark of the fourth quarter where Carson Craig hooked up with Shaun Groves from 31 yards out.

Craig would again find Groves for a successful 2-point conversion to close out the scoring.

Despite the loss, East Robertson head coach Atlee Pond spoke highly of his team.

“We’ll be fine; these kids are resilient,” said Pond, “but you have to give credit to Watertown they came out and hit us in the mouth — but we’ll be fine.”

East Robertson, winners of three straight after an 0-3 start, are idle next week before returning to action at home Oct. 15 playing host to Westmoreland.

The Eagles snapped a six-game losing streak with a 35-6 victory over Whites Creek.

Watertown is scheduled to entertain 3-4 Harpeth High — a 56-34 loser at Trousdale County on Friday.
