Week 7: Wilson County prep football at a glance

Bears play host to Station Camp Thursday –

Mt. Juliet football is scheduled to play the first of three consecutive Thursday night games tonight as the Golden Bears take on Region 5, 5A opponent Station Camp.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Roger Perry Field.

Live radio coverage will be provided by Joe Fisher and Greg Pogue on WNSR 560 AM and FM 95.9 as the Mid-State Checkdown Game of the Week.

Mt. Juliet enters Thursday’s contest riding atop the Region 5, 5A standings with a perfect 3-0 record after handling Wilson Central 31-3 last Friday in Gladeville.

Since a 27-18 season-opening loss at Gallatin, the Bears have reeled off four straight wins — averaging 39.7 points per game while only allowing 11.5 per contest.

Senior tailback Dearrius Morton has scored six touchdowns over the past two games and has rushed for 468 yards on 38 attempts — an average of 12.3 yards per carry.

Station Camp at 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the region is more than a worthy adversary.

The Bison opened the season with two straight wins, then lost 54-27 to White County before righting the ship with a 28-20 victory over Gallatin and last Friday’s 34-13 decision over West Creek.

White County at Wilson Central

Another Region 5, 5A contest encounter watching is Friday’s White County game at Wilson Central.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.

White County stands 5-1 overall and an impressive 2-1 in the region after holding off Green Hill 21-20 last Friday in Sparta.

White County’s do-everything tailback Malaki Dowell ran for 226 yards and three scores before tweaking a groin muscle late in the third period.

The explosive Warriors have scored 247 points over six games — an average of over 40 points per game.

Injury-depleted Wilson Central defends the home turf with an overall record of 1-5 and 1-2 in the region.

The Wildcats are home for the second game of a three-game homestand while five other Wilson County teams will be playing on the road.

Friendship Christian at The Webb School

Friendship Christian’s undefeated football team looks to pad a 6-0 record Friday as the Commanders bus to the Bedford County community of Bell Buckle to take on The Webb School in a Division II-A East Regional contest.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at recently renovated Lagler Field.

Leading just 7-0 after one period, Coach John McNeal’s squad used a big second quarter on the way to a 55-8 homecoming win over Class 3A Maplewood last Friday at Pirtle Field.

The Webb Feet stand 2-3 overall following a 37-7 loss last Friday at Grace Christian – Franklin.

Lebanon at Shelbyville Central

Coach Chuck Gentry’s Blue Devils are making the program’s first trip to Shelbyville Central in over three decades Friday as Lebanon takes on the Golden Eagles in a Region 3, 6A contest.

Live radio coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on WANT FM-98.9 and WCOR AM-1490 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Lebanon overpowered Lincoln County 38-0 last Friday, piling up 450 yards in offense and 20 first downs.

The Blue Devils stand 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the region while Shelbyville Central has sputtered to an 0-5 overall record (0-1 in the region).

Last Friday the Golden Eagles dropped a 27-24 decision at Kenwood High.

Green Hill at East Nashville

Green Hill takes a record of 4-2 into Davidson County Friday as the Hawks challenge the 6-0 East Nashville Magnet Eagles – ranked No. 1 in 3A.

Green Hill is coming off a tough 21-20 loss at regional opponent White County while East routed Independence High 32-7.

MJ Christian at Columbia Academy

Refreshed following an open week in the schedule, Mt. Juliet Christian Academy goes in search of a win Friday as the Saints venture into Maury County to take on Columbia Academy.

The Saints stand 0-5 on the season while Columbia Academy is 2-3, losers of three straight, including a 55-7 loss at Boyd Buchanan last Friday

Watertown at East Robertson

Watertown jumps back into Region 4, 2A play Friday as the Purple Tigers travel to red-hot East Robertson.

The Purple Tigers are 2-4 following last Friday’s 48-7 loss to Class 4A Upperman.

East Robertson (5-1, 2-0 region) has won five games in a row, including last week’s 41-0 homecoming victory over Jo Byrns.
